Materials you’ll need for this project:
FABRIC
An 8 x 10 inch piece of 11 count (11 squares to the inch) Aida cloth. My samples are done on navy. You can use any color you want to. (Finished sampler size is 5 x 6.5 inches.)
● This site has blue, black and light colors: https://123stitch.com/m/11-Count-Aida-style-Cross-Stitch-Fabric
● This is the one I used for my samples: https://www.amazon.com/Cloth-Count-Stitch-Fabric-19%C3%9728inch/dp/B0F2FBQNZN
● If you can’t get 11 count, 10 or 12 would be fine. Some of the stitches will be difficult to do on 14/18 count.
THREADS
You need 6 colors for this project. The samples I made are sewn in #8 perle cotton. You could also use 2-3 strands of DMC cross stitch floss.
Your colors should be close to the same value (lightness/darkness) and should contrast well with your fabric color. You can use solid or variegated colors. My sample has 3 solids and 3 variegated. The colors I put together for my sample are from Wonderfil and include 420 polished amber, 722 river stone, 916 calypso, 1060 volcano, 1034 canopy, 1076 northern lights.
I also have a limited number of thread sets available that match my sample which you can order directly from me.
NEEDLE & NOTIONS
You should have a cross stitch needle size 22. Cross stitch needles have a rounded/blunt tip and will work better for this project than a sharp needle.
You can work in a hoop if you like.
